70s educational kid show ELECTRIC COMPANY on DVD
The 1st episode aired on US televison on 1971 on PBS. The last episode in 1977, with a total of 780 episodes. Not sure when it aired on Australian TV, but I do remember watching it in the mid 70s & then still seeing it later on the ABC in the early 80s. I also bought the magazine of the show & the Spidey comic that Marvel also put out, which naturally was based around the fact that a few episodes included cheapie looking live action Spiderman segments. Like Sesame Street it was a Childrens Televison Workshop production & was also an educationally oriented childrens show. Groovy music, psychedelic visuals & comedy skits that were niether patronising nor childish. It was an exemplary tour de force in its day. I'm looking forward to revisting the memories.
Now 20 of the episodes have been collected by retro/pop culture label Shout! Factory as The Best of the Electric Company.
4 discs. 20 episodes at 30mins each.
Release date: Feb 6th 2006.
